I got to thinking and I decided that Valkyrie Cain aka Stephanie Edgley from the Skulduggery Pleasant series is definitely an Anti-Bella.
When we first start off with the series, she is a twelve year old girl who does feel different is thrown into a world full of magic. Instead of complaining and throwing a tantrum, she decides that she loves it and wants to go in.
She doesn't automatically know how to do magic, she does train for it. She learns how to fight over the years.
When was fourteen, she essentially kills a god, while Bella sat by and did nothing while the vampires and werewolves fight, while doing nothing.
At least once a book, Valkyrie has to save the world. She doesn't hide behind her friends, she literally throws herself into the job and fights to stop it. And she tries to solve murders, in other words: she's proactive. And the bad guys actually take her as a serious threat while she's still a teenager.
Valkyrie does have friends: Fletcher, Tanith, Skulduggery, and China, who are adults. Skulduggery on the other hand is dead and a skeleton. Fletcher is her ex-boyfriend.
Valkyrie does love her parents and treats them with respect. When her mother got punched by a mugger, Valkyrie's first instinct is wanting to hurt the guy who did it.
Valkyrie does develop a crush on a Teleporter and dates him. However, she does end up dating a vampire on the side. The way this vampire acts is like Edward. "My love for you is eternal" type of crap and Valkyrie reacts like, "Do you always come off this strong?"
When the vampire comes off as creepy and rapey, Valkryie fights back and ends up killing the guy because he was getting creepy towards her.
In other words, I think she's a better protagonist than Bella Swan. She's proactive, she has a hobby which is being a detective with Skulduggery, she kicks ass, and she's Irish.

Date: 2017-04-12 04:42 am (UTC)The series is a little dark, to be honest. In the second book, a man can make people explode with just a look.
